Rail Rider II
High Rail for Excavators, Simplified

Rail Rider II - Hi-Rail for Excavators, SIMPLIFIED!
The Dymax Rail Rider II high rail system introduces ultimate flexibility to high rail fleet management. Don't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars extensively modifying multiple machines. Utilize the existing machines already in your fleet. Never limit your high rail choices to only those machines with dedicated hi-rail gear installed. With the Dymax Rail Rider II, hi-rail any excavator. Want to switch brands? Do so without spending more money on new conversions. The Dymax Rail Rider II is the smarter, more efficient way to high rail excavator machines.
Perform Track Maintenance, YES!
The Dymax Rail Rider II high rail system features customized remote control technology with built-in creep drive modes. This allows operators to perform multiple tasks. UNDERCUTTING! BALLAST TAMPING! TIE HANDLING! The Rail Rider II features built-in stabilizers that secure the Machine Car for on-track work such as ditch cleaning, culvert and dam building for flood damage, post hole drilling and other demanding jobs.
Rail Rider II - PLUG AND PLAY! NO MACHINE MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED!
The Dymax Rail Rider II is a game changer. It's a modular system. It's plug and play. The Dymax Rail Rider II does not require any machine modifications or power assistance from the excavator. It's designed to travel longer distances and handle bigger loads, compared to modified rail gear equipped excavators. It starts with a Machine Car and a Power Car. Add trailer cars, front and rear. Dymax Rail Rider II is the ultimate in hi-rail modularity and flexibility.
Special Engineered Remote Control & Camera System
Each Dymax Rail Rider II high rail machine is provided with a remote control. This easily allows contractors and rail networks to set up any machine brand, in any class, and perform track maintenance. The remote system features the ability to control the machine from the control box, or the provided foot pedals. Foot pedals are required when performing track maintenance from the Rail Rider II so that operators can use the excavator machine controls for the maintenance work. The remote control includes a padded case for protection and a remote camera system, which allows operators to have a clear view of the track section behind them while working.
The Power Car - 240 HP Delivers More Towing Power Than Any Other Rail Gear Equipped Machine
The heart of the Dymax Rail Rider II high rail system is the Power Car. Featuring a Cummins 6.7L 240 HP Tier 3 engine (Tier 4 available at an additional charge), the Power Car can deliver up to 70 to 80 tons of total power. This means that it can not only move the excavator, but panels, rail ties and other materials to and from remote locations, all without stressing the machine's power systems. The Power Car can be used with any of the Dymax Rail Machine Cars without modification. For example, one Power Car can be matched with Machine Cars for a 20 ton excavator and a 36 ton excavator. That delivers high rail for both machines for considerably less than dedicated machine conversions on both machines. All Power Cars feature an auxiliary hand tool circuit with hose reel, lighting, tie downs, lifting chains, toolbox and anti-slip deck coating.
The Machine Car - 17 to 20 mph Speeds, 50+ Tons of Towing Power
Dymax Rail Rider II Machine Cars are matched to the given excavator class for hauling capacity and lifting requirements. Machine Cars are available in end load designs. The end load design keeps the machine as close to within W6A load gauge as possible.
- A 16, 18 and 20 ton Machine Car is available with 350cc drive motors. This car delivers speeds up to 20 MPH on 0-2% grades.
- A mid-sized Machine Car is available for 25 to 29 ton excavators. This car features 420cc drive motors.
- The largest Machine Car for 30 and 36 Ton excavators features 420cc drive motors and can pull a spare 30 tons on rail up to 1.5% grades at 12 to 14 MPH.
All Machine Cars are fitted with air brakes, 16” diameter replaceable rail wheels, and multi-plate coupling quick disconnects. All Machine Cars are provided with lifting chains and anti-slip deck surface coating.
