Ballast Blaster

Excavator and Backhoe Undercutters

Features

PATENTED Ballast Blaster Undercutter - Easy Ballast Removal!

Water and mud: two things that destroy the interlocking mechanics of the ballast and ruin track geometry. For years, the only way to remedy soft spots of fouled ballast rock was by using large, expensive ballast cleaning machinery. These machines required track time and, in some cases, were bigger than the track section needing repair. The other method was cleaning by hand, a time consuming, labor intensive job that posed many safety risks and resulted in minimal production.

The patented Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster Undercutter (US Patent 8904676) is the best solution for improving overall ballast and infrastructure. Excavators and backhoe loaders fitted with a Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster remove contaminated ballast rock from beneath the tracks faster and more efficiently. Ballast Blaster Undercutters are job-matched to the machine and deliver the highest performance. They typically achieve 20 to 50 meter per hour (65 to 165 feet per hour) cutting rates, depending on the model and track conditions.

Ballast Cleaner Solutions, Simplified

Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster Undercutters outperform all other methods for ballast removal. Some rail networks prefer it to conventional on-track ballast cleaners, as they are more efficient and easier to get on and off track, especially congested networks with severe time restraints. We can prove that you will more than double productivity and cut operating costs by more than half! Get the work done within limited track time. The Ballast Blaster is the safest to operate and easiest to maintain undercutter on the market. It exceeds the productivity and durability of every other brand of undercutter.

Replaceable Carbide Wear Plates

All Dymax Ballast Blasters feature replaceable wear plates that are armored with RokGäard™ carbide protection. The carbide encompasses both sides of the wear plate, delivering twice the protection and offering significant benefits when working in harsh environments. Our carbide process does not chip like competing products, and blaster wear plates can be easily maintained in the field.

World's Only Automatic Adjusting Cutting Chain & Bidirectional Cutting Tooth

Available on some models, the auto-adjusting chain dramatically reduces chain wear, saving even more money, increasing safety and reducing downtime. Dymax Rail Ballast Blasters feature automatic chain adjustment systems that deliver the right amount of tension throughout the cutting cycle. The auto-adjust chain gives you continuous cutting ability. Never stop to manually tighten your chain! Eliminate the possibility of injury and improve wear part life to the sprockets and cutting chains.

Another exclusive design, the Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster chain cuts in both directions. Bi-directional -- both forward and reverse cutting action at the flip of a switch -- means more uptime, and more feet-per-hour track time maintenance. Dramatically increase productivity!

Other significant advantages are the RokGäard™ carbide coated and dual tipped chain teeth, as well as the built-in cushioning system that prolongs chain and sprocket life. These durability designs move money straight to the bottom line! Dymax Rail is the first in the world with these design technologies engineered for excavator undercutters.

World's First Undercutter with Integrated 360° Rotation System

The Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster is the world's first undercutter with full 360° continuous rotation. The added flexibility gives operators the ability to work from either side of the tracks. It also greatly improves management of spoil piles, allowing operators flexibility and maximum cutting speed and performance.

Dymax Rail Ballast Blasters are also available to fit tilt-rotator coupler systems.

Ballast Blaster Hydraulics - No Costly Machine Modifications!

We've worked with every major machine manufacturer and have produced more than 300,000 work tools. We design our work tool to the standard, stock machine. YOU DO NOT NEED SPECIAL HIGH COST HYDRAULIC MODIFICATIONS ADDED TO THE MACHINE.

The Dymax Rail Ballast Blaster Undercutter requires at most two hydraulic circuits unless fitting a tilt rotator coupler system. (The electro-hydraulic valve package only requires the use of a 24v electric service cable connected to a switch in the cable.)

Spoilmaster™ Attachment - Manage Spoil Piles More Efficiently

The Spoilmaster™ can be added to the Dymax Rail 10 foot, 12 foot, and 15 foot Ballast Blasters. Spoilmaster™ requires an additional hydraulic circuit with case drain, which requires minimal oil flow and pressure. Spoilmaster™ does not require high cost adaptive hydraulic power units to be added to the machine, and works with standard excavator hydraulics that can easily be removed from the Ballast Blaster when not required.

Spoilmaster™ is smarter, more efficient, and delivers excellent performance. It's spoil management simplified. Contact Dymax Rail for hydraulic information to see if Spoilmaster™ will work on your specific machine size.

Hydraulic Circuit Basic Requirements
Motor Circuit (All Models) All Dymax Rail Ballast Blasters regardless of model require a high pressure, high flow circuit with case drain to operate the cutting chain drive motor. The chain drive requires bi-directional oil control for operating in forward or reverse directions. For models working with tilt rotator systems this is the only circuit required for operation.
Rotation Gear Circuit (not applicable on tilt rotator models) All Dymax Rail 360° systems require a secondary circuit with medium pressure lines. This system needs to be operated in both directions forward/reverse.
Bar Tilt Circuit (not applicable on tilt rotator models) Dymax Rail provides an electro-hydraulic diverter valve on every 360° model. A basic wiring kit is provided and requires a power cable to be routed to the stick from a switch in the cab. This system diverts oil flow from the rotate circuit to operate the bar tilt control.
Hydraulic Kits Available Dymax Rail can offer a complete or partial hydraulic kit to operate the Dymax Ballast Blaster 360° undercutter with excavators and backhoe loaders. Each kit is tailored to the specific machine and series and a serial number is required at time of request.
